Binance’s Top Strategist Confirms Departure Amid US Resignations
• Patrick Hillmann, Binance’s Chief Strategy Officer, has confirmed his departure from the company after two years.
• Reports suggest that other top compliance executives in the US have handed in their resignations.
• Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao denies these reports and insists that employees are leaving for personal reasons.
Patrick Hillmann Leaves Binance
Binance’s chief strategy officer Patrick Hillmann has confirmed he is leaving the crypto exchange after two years on July 6th. He announced it through a tweet saying he was leaving on good terms and to make way for his second child.
Other Executives Reportedly Leaving
Reports from Fortune suggest that several other executives, such as general counsel Han Ng and senior vice president for compliance Steven Christie, have also resigned from Binance. However, CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao dismissed these reports as ‚FUD‘ (fear, uncertainty and doubt) and claimed they were completely wrong.
Bloomberg reported that Eleanor Hughes will replace Ng as head of legal for APAC and MENA while Noah Perlamn will remain at the company as chief compliance officer.
The U.S Justice Department is reportedly investigating Binance over its alleged allowance of Russians to use the exchange. This news may be related to why certain executives may have chosen to leave the company suddenly.
Overall, it is unclear why exactly Patrick Hillmann left Binance or if other executive departures are related to this investigation by the DoJ; however, CZ Zhao maintains that these reports are false and unrelated to any legal issues with the company.
